Seeking Tournament Sponsors
In the months ahead, the Timberhill Tennis Club (TTC) will be exploring methods for expanding the level of sponsorships for each of our five non-sponsored club tournaments. Currently only the highly successful John & Phil's Toyota Tournament is sponsored by a business or organization. The TTC membership and its Board acknowledges the tremendous support and generosity provided by John & Phil's Toyota in sponsoring what has become one of the northwest's premier tennis tournaments. However, we currently have five other tournaments which lack any form of sponsorship. These three junior and two adult tournaments include: Corvallis City NTRP Championships; Pacific Western JR. "A" Tournament; Corvallis Rookie Tournament; Corvallis Junior Championships; and The All-Comers Tournament.
The Board recognizes that a number of TTC members are either business owners or prominent and influential leaders in local businesses and organizations. Therefore, before opening up general sponsorships inquiries to parties outside our Club, the TTC Board thought it would be appropriate to first offer our members , their businesses and their organizations the chance to provide tournament sponsorships.
Thus, we are proposing that any TTC member who is in a position to sponsor one of our five tournaments to come forward and take advantage of this opportunity. Keep in mind that we are not asking for members to duplicate the type of sponsorship given by John & Phil's Toyota. Clearly, the John & Phil's Toyota Tournament sponsorship is special and unique. Instead, we are looking for persons, businesses, or organizations to provide smaller sponsorships in the $100 to $500 range in cash, goods, or services. These sponsorship packages should be construed as advertising ventures which can be customized to any business or organization's promotional needs. All proceeds from the sponsorship would go directly to the promotional aspects of the particular sponsored tournament and\or to the profits gleamed from that tournament. Profits from these tournaments are traditionally distributed to the three local high school tennis teams. There is no doubt that sponsorship would be a winning proposition. Your business or organization would gain a customized means of advertising and heighten publicity in the community, tournament entrants would receive promotional support and materials for their participation, and our local high school tennis teams would also benefit from such sponsorship.
This exclusive sponsorship invitation to club members will not last forever. If you are interested or if you think you can get your company or organization interested in such an advertising opportunity, please contact Gary Quandt or Hunter Lipscomb by June 1. They will work with you or your business\organizational representative to structure an ideal sponsorship package that can fit your organization's needs. Remember, after June 1 we will begin to actively seek sponsors who are not necessarily club members. Give it some thought and I hope your business or organization will join us in this venture.
Robert Rice, on behalf of the TTC Board.
Pet Peeves
Do you have a pet peeve you want to voice about the club? Just e-mail Gary with
your pet peeve and Gary can out it in the next newsletter. Here's one that I
received.
Q: I should up about 20 minutes late for my court time and was told by the
players playing that I forfeited the court because I was over 15 minutes late?
A: Section E in TTC Rules states;
E. Reservation Forfeiture: Any reservation is forfeited if the members who reserve
the court are more than 15 minutes late. In such a case the court becomes open
for any member's use. However, if those using it are still on the court from
a previous play period, the original reservation is to be honored even if the
players are over 15 minutes late.
Another reason to make sure you are on time and get the maximum time you can
from your playing time!!

Corvallis City NTRP Championships
Put this event on your calendar. It is the Corvallis City NTRP Championships
that Timberhill will host June 20-22. It has NTRP Levels in Men's & Women's
Singles and Doubles as well as Mixed Doubles. You can register online at the
USTA/TennisLink web and we will have hard copies around the clubhouse you can
use to register. This event is for adults, juniors, Men & Women, so everyone
has a chance to become a Champion of Corvallis. For more info contact Gary or
Hunter at the club.
Sunriver Adult Tennis Camp
Gary will be hosting his 25th annual Bend Tennis Camp this year at the beautiful
Sunriver resort on May 29-June 1. This is an adult camp that is a great way
to enjoy central Oregon as well as improving your tennis. We start camp Thursday
late afternoon at 4pm and stay on court until 6:30pm and then have a BBQ around
7pm. Tennis continues Friday with a morning and afternoon session. Then we have
a long Saturday session from 8:30-12pm and finish Sunday morning going from
8:30-12pm as well. We will be using the North Court in the Sunriver and the
cost will be $199 per person which includes instruction, prizes, T-Shirts and
a Thursday night BBQ. Applications are in the TTC clubhouse or give Gary a call
at the club for more details.
There might be no "I" in team, but there certainly is "Timberhill"
in team--our members, that is. Between USTA and junior leagues and the area
high school varsity and junior varsity teams, it is hard to walk across the
lobby without encountering a league player. This is a great format for everyone
to enjoy tennis in. The camaraderie and spirit is something that is often missing
from individual tournament formats. It seems to be here to stay. That being
said, practicing with your team can forge bonds both on and off the court that
can be helpful to your team's performance. Becky and I have worked with most
f our teams in practice sessions this year--working on things as simple as technique
and as complex as when or when not to poach in doubles. If yur team hasn't tried
this, maybe now is the time. It is also time to check out the newest frames
if you're in the market for a racquet: Gary has all the new (K)factor Wilsons,
Prince Speedports and Head Microgels waiting for you to demo (and buy!)
Happy Spring!!
Here are the USA League team standings as of March 14, 2008
Women's 2.5 1-1
Women's 3.0 1-1
Women's 3.5 0-1
Women's 4.0 1-0
Women's 4.5 1-0
Men's 3.0 0-3
Men's 3.5 (Myers) 1-2
Men's 3.5 (Donel) 0-1
Greg & Melinda Creswick 929-4984; Melinda is a 3.5/4.0 player and
Greg plays at the 3.0/3.5. They both enjoy singles, doubles or mixed doubles
and have a little flexibility to their schedules. They also have three junior
players, Nicholas (15), Hannah & Hallie, both 11 years old
Jack Miller 541-619-7354
Sam Mekhail 207-3532; Sam along with his 18 year old son James like to
play in the evenings or weekends. They both play at the 3.0 level and would
like to play some singles sometime.
Kevin McNamara 738-7047; Kevin plays at the 3.0 level and has some flexibility
to his schedule. He enjoys doubles and singles. Give Kevin a call to fill in

With many new members this is a great time to expand your tennis horizons and
give some of these new members a call to play. They would welcome a call to
play. Remember that if you want to get some other players call Gary at the club
and I can help you get networked with other Timberhill members.
