State of The Club Address
Firstly, the club is in good shape financially - enough so that the Board felt it unnecessary to raise your dues this year. The court reserve, emergency reserve, and property tax reserve are all well funded. Thanks to the initiative of Treasurer Bob Custer, the reserve funds have been invested with Vanguard, where a better rate of return is enjoyed, as compared with that received from Citizens Bank. We continue to chip away at the long-term debt. Membership is steady.

Secondly, the club is well staffed. Hunter's instructional programs are well attended, especially the youth classes. Gary has extended tennis activities into the Parks & Recreation program and the Boys & Girls Club, and they have also been involved with the push to complete tennis courts for Corvallis High and Philomath High School. Both Hunter and Becky have been busy with private lessons. In our performance review (which is not yet completed), member comments regarding staff have been positive, almost without exception.

Thirdly, several maintenance issues have been taken care of, and minor improvements have been made. Nets have been replaced, courts power washed, courtside benches have been replaced, etc. The garage door onto court two has been enlarged to allow entrance of equipment that will make changing light bulbs and cleaning easier. A plan is in the works to deal with the roof leaks on courts 1-3, see report later in this newsletter. A settlement was reached with the prior roofer, and we are now dealing with a different company. One major disappointment was the failure to carry out the plan to apply a coat of sprayfoam to the building housing courts 4-6. The cost to meet the city's requirement to fireproof the sprayfoam proved to be too much.
I would like to thank all the members who have donated time and effort to special events, which have taken place during the past year. We are a member owned club, and it's up to us to decide what activities and facility changes or improvements are worthwhile. Stay involved, and make your thoughts known.

WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Congratulations to the freshman class of the TTC Board of Directors. Elected to fill the four open spots are Melissa Pohl, Randy Willard, Warner Evans and Robert Rice. All have diverse backgrounds and should represent you well. Remember that without our Board TTC does not function well. The Board looks at long term items make ruling and precedents when it comes to club matters. They will serve for two years and attend our monthly meetings on Monday evenings. Welcome and the staff looks forward to working with you to make TTC the best it can be.

SKYLIGHTS LEAKING OVER COURTS #1-3
Our Maintenance committee and Board have made some recommendations on the path for the skylight fixes. We received a bid for just over $16,000 to put a membrane over all the existing skylights. That would be a temporary fix (maximum five year lifespan). The committee was very hesitant to spend that kind of money on a short-term fix. We could replace about 1/3 of the existing skylights for that price.
The plan of attack will be to get up and try to spray over all the bolts and seams in the skylights and try to slow down the leaks this winter. In the meantime this winter we will get bids and some engineering plans to replace the skylights properly. We thought we could replace four of the skylights the summer of 2008 and then make sure that they hold out the winter rains. If they work as planned to replace the remaining skylights during the summer of 2009. We are looking at a long-term plan that we hope will work and keep the courts dry. This winter we will probably still have some leakage and we hope that it will not inconvenience us too much.
Thanks for all your patience is this complicated problem.

2008 MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY
We are starting to put together the annual membership directory. We will have a draft copy sitting on the clubhouse round table. Please check your name and listing to make sure we are up to date with your address, telephone numbers and e-mail address. If you want something changed, deleted, or added just make the changes on the draft copy. We are doing more e-mail announcements so if you have an e-mail address and want to get announcements, newsletters, etc. make sure that you give us your e-mail address. We will take the directory to print around the fist of the year and have them available to members by the second week of January.

AED DEFIBRILATAR
A member had asked me about how to use the defibrillator that we have in the clubhouse. I think it's a good time to remind members that we have one and that we have instructions on how to use it posted around the club and in the defibrillator holder. It is made that an 8 year old can use it as it gives voice commands and talks you through the procedure to use it. You would also take the written instructions, but would not even have to look at it, as you would follow the voice commands. If you are more interested in seeing how this device works you can cut and paste the web site below and view a demonstration video on how to use the defibrillator. Hopefully we will never have to use it here at Timberhill but is a great precaution just in case.

Also we are looking at putting some emergency blankets out in the courts for these cold winter days if someone gets injured and we need to keep them warm.

NEW YORK NEW YEAR'S PARTY
We will have a unique New Years Eve party this year. We are having a New York New Year's Eve party. The plan is to start the event at 6:30pm and have snacks, desserts and BYOB if you want. We will watch the Time Square ball drop at 9:00pm and bring in the New Year at 9:00 instead of 12:00pm. The activities will end around 9:30pm and you may stay and continue to play, go to another New Year's Eve Party or go home and sleep off the party. There will be some organized tennis as well as camaraderie, fun and lots of food and drink. Look for a sigh-up sheet in the clubhouse.

This is the best tennis that you can see in Corvallis and we encourage all members to come see some great tennis during the tournament.

Lots of things happening around the club….get involved and be a part of things! USTA league signups for 2008 are posted in the lobby. Getting on a team is a convenient way to meet new people to play and sharpen your competitive edge. Tennis Welcome Centers classes are a great way to get the non-playing family members involved in tennis, and sign-ups have been good again this fall. What could be a better holiday gift plan than to introduce someone to a lifetime sport? Get your loved one involved and sign'em up! Looking to the future we will be offering a New Years Eve Party with an: East Coast" twist this year (think in terms of celebrating 2008 at 9:00pm!), so think of us as you make plans. We will also be holding mini-camps and competitions for high schoolers during the holiday break. USTA Junior Team Tennis is happening in the winter for the 14-under crew. Look for more details on the junior bulleting board. Also, a reminder that we are always on the lookout for parent Junior Fest hosts--this won't cost you any money, just a few hours on a Friday each year. Let us know if you're interested. Have a great holiday season!
