TTC Board [Top]

Greetings,

I am excited to have been appointed as president of our club. I have really enjoyed being a member over the last year and a half. We have a great club.

Gary and the board are still prioritizing finding an affordable and pleasing solution to the leaking skylights. Gary is going to meet with more contractors over the next few weeks to try to find a path forward. Stay tuned.

The spring leagues have great club participation. Over one third of the members are participating in the league. This representation is excellent. Best of luck and fun for all of you who are playing. Hunter and Becky have been quite busy with lessons and promoting junior tennis. Great job!

The board is very interested in member's ideas, comments and concerns. Please feel comfortable in letting us know what you are thinking.

I look forward to meeting more of you both on and off the court.

Pet Peeves
Do you have a pet peeve you want to voice about the club? Just e-mail Gary with your pet peeve and Gary can out it in the next newsletter. Here's one that I received.

Pet Peeve: I tried to make a court reservation and the computer told me that all the courts were reserved. I happen to come by the club at the time I tried to reserve a court and a court was not being used.

As soon you know that you cannot make a court reservation that you have made you should cancel the court right away so someone else has the chance to reserve that court. One trick to canceling a court is that when you call the computer you must #2 to get into the cancellation menu. Then you must cancel the lead reservation, e.g. If the reservations made for Smith/Brown you need to cancel the Smith court since that is the first and lead reservation. If you try to cancel the Brown reservation it will not let you.

Please be aware that other members might be trying to reserve a court, so please cancel your court if you cannot make it. Here are some reservation rules in our Policies.

II. Playing and Reservation Rules
A. Before Play: When using a reserved court period, registration must be made for the court and time period reserved.
B. Failure to Use Registration: If a reserved court is not used, a $5 fine for failure to register may be assessed for failure to cancel.
C. Two Reserved Courts per Day: No person should play more than twice each day on a reserved court regardless of whose name was used for the reservation. Violation of this rule may result in a $5 fine.
1. Above rule applies to all play periods.
2. A third play period on a reserved court in any one-day is permissible if done as a last minute "fill in" to make a doubles or singles game when another player had to withdraw.
3. A private lesson or a clinic does not count as a play period.

Melanie's Madness (Oregon Senior Women's event)
Timberhill will host our annual Melanie's Madness Oregon's Senior Women's event Tuesday May 13 from 9:30am - 1:30pm. Any Women over the age of 40 can sign up for the event and join the organization at the event. It is a playday for 3.5 players and above with a lunch served afterward. Corvallis City NTRP Championships
Put this event on your calendar. It is the Corvallis City NTRP Championships that Timberhill will host June 20-22. It has NTRP Levels in Men's & Women's Singles and Doubles as well as Mixed Doubles. You can register online at the USTA/TennisLink web and we will have hard copies around the clubhouse you can use to register. This event is for adults, juniors, Men & Women, so everyone has a chance to become a Champion of Corvallis. For more info contact Gary or Hunter at the club.

Sunriver Adult Tennis Camp
Gary will be hosting his 25th annual Bend Tennis Camp this year at the beautiful Sunriver resort on May 29-June 1. This is an adult camp that is a great way to enjoy central Oregon as well as improving your tennis. We start camp Thursday late afternoon at 4pm and stay on court until 6:30pm and then have a BBQ around 7pm. Tennis continues Friday with a morning and afternoon session. Then we have a long Saturday session from 8:30-12pm and finish Sunday morning going from 8:30-12pm as well. We will be using the North Courts in the Sunriver and the cost will be $199 per person, which includes instruction, prizes, T-Shirts and a Thursday night BBQ. Applications are in the TTC clubhouse or give Gary a call at the club for more details.

TOURNAMENT SPONSORSHIP
We have had some success with our tournament sponsorship letter program we sent out last month. For the All-Comers NTRP tournament that we host in the early Fall we are looking to recognize a member that has given back to Timberhill as well as the community tennis by naming the tournament after that member to recognize their support of TTC and tennis. We plan on rotating the name each year. We are asking you, the membership, to give the Board some nominees. Please contact any Board member or staff member with a nomination. We would like to have the next five years named for a different member.

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year around hear--I get to hear stories from all different types of players about their match experience in leagues, tournaments, and team matches. Plus it's finally warm! One of my primary responsibilities is to keep new blood flowing into the sport and our club. Tennis Welcome Center programs have gotten many involved in tennis for the first time, and more of these players are showing up on our 2.5 and 3.0 teams. More players means good news for Timberhill and for tennis in general--always stay on the lookout for those interested in starting. If you have a friend or colleague who has expressed interest, send them our way and we'll channel them into the appropriate program. A god way to try this out will be our second annual Tennis Across America free clinic, on Saturday May 3 at 1:30pm. Anyone may attend this class, and there is no charge, so bring a friend!
Special congratulations go out to all of our participants in the inaugural Willamette Junior Team Tennis League. We fielded two teams out of the five total, and finished second and third after the playoff (our second place team finished the regular season undefeated!) We'll be running a summer league, with 18 & Under and 14 & Under intermediate teams competing against teams from Salem, Albany, and Eugene. It's a great way to get consistent match practice, so let me know if you're interested and we'll get you on a team.
Also a quick reminder that TTC is hosting the inaugural Mid-Valley Conference Boys ad Girls High School District Tournament May 7, 8, and 9. Courts will be in short supply during this event, but come out and support these young players, many of whom practice and play here at Timberhill.

New Members / Substitute List [Top]

Xiaoclan Yu 1785-317-1995; Dan Dan (what she likes to be called) is a new junior member. They just moved here from the Missouri Valley area. Dan Dan was ranked about #20 in the Girl's 14 Singles division in the Missouri Valley. She likes singles as well as doubles and also likes to practice.

With many new members this is a great time to expand your tennis horizons and give some of these new members a call to play. They would welcome a call to play. Remember that if you want to get some other players call Gary at the club and I can help you get networked with other Timberhill members.
