Presidents Parley [Top]

Greetings,

It is becoming a busy season for the Timberhill Board. Please watch for the Timberhill Board member voting ballot. This is the time to vote for new board members to represent you at the club. I am sure you are tired of all the political ads and arguments on the state and national level. We promise a much less contentious election than the ones I keep hearing whenever I turn on the TV. At least the Tennis Channel does not have a big election presence.

At 7:30 PM, November 10th, the Board will be having our annual meeting. This meeting will talk about the state of the club over the last year and the vision for the next year. Over the last few years, attendance by the general membership has been low. We are hoping that this year will bring more members to take part in this meeting. This will be another opportunity to express your concerns and wishes for the direction of the club.

I hope that you are enjoying the season and your tennis game is rewarding.

Randy Willard

Potential Board Members - Ballot

John Myers - I have been playing at Timberhill Tennis for 12 years. I have played tennis
for about 25 years. I participate in many of the special events at the club. I enjoy playing USTA leagues and have participated in Men's, Mixed and Senior leagues. I also play several tournaments each year, singles and doubles.

Stan Sevruk - I've enjoyed playing tennis on men's night on a scheduled time period.
I've also played on the Fall and Spring USTA teams since my joining the club. I try to play in as many tournaments as my schedule allows. I work for myself in the Real Estate market in new construction, residential and commercial rentals, and maintenance and property development.

Ron Guenther - Ron has a Timberhill member for almost three years, but a tennis player for over 50 years. Ron is a retired math professor at OSU. He plays at the 3.5 level and enjoys singles or doubles. He also has played in many of our tournaments and USA league tennis.

James Kreuger - Jim has been a long time member at Timberhill and his family grew up playing tennis at TTC. Jim is a retired chemistry professor teaching at OSU for over 35 years. Jim is a 3.0 level player and plays casually at different times usually playing singles but sometime filling in for doubles matches.

Heidi Igarashi -

"Meet the Members Social"
Timberhill will be hosting a social event geared to the newer members of TTC, "Meet the Members" Social event. It will be held Sunday Nov. 16 from 4 - 8pm. Tennis will be from 4 - 7pm with a light dinner fare starting at 7pm. There will be a sign up sheet at the club that all TTC members can sign up for two weeks before the event. The tennis will be organized and you can sign up are for individuals as Gary will set up a rotating system. This is a great way to meet other TTC members, network yourself and pick up new members to play. Remember that you must sign up ahead of time and all levels of play are welcome. For more info call Gary at the club.

Pet Peeves - Tennis Ball Pickup
I still get the most complaints about TTC members not cleaning up their courts after they use the practice balls or use the ball machine. For those who use the practice balls or ball machines, please make sure that all the balls, behind curtains as well, are picked up before you leave the court. Members who play after you get very tired of spending a few minutes of their valuable court time cleaning up the court when they arrive due the lack of the previous player not completely cleaning up the balls. Thanks for your support in this matter!

Financial Security
With this depressing financial picture you can be assured that Timberhill and its financial institutions are doing just fine. Both Citizens Bank (accounts) and Umpqua Bank (mortgage holder) never dabbled in the sub prime mortgages that have caused the financial crisis. We have saved up reserves and are taking a very conservative stance during this downturn in the economy. Timberhill is in a great position to continue to provide the great services we have for years and will continue doing so.

Annual Board meeting Nov. 10
This out TTC annual meeting that is open to all members. This is a time to listen to a state of the club address by the president, a look at the year-end financial statements and to bring up any areas of concern about the club and it's operations. This is your chance if you have any issues to bring them up in an open discussion. We invite all members to attend. The meeting is scheduled for Monday night November 10 at 7:30pm in the TTC clubhouse.

USA Adult League Organizational Meetings
USTA Adult league is coming with the start of play the beginning of Feb. and team commitments for January. We will have organizational meeting for each level of play where the interested team members will meet one evening and settle on how the team will be run, captains, and other pertinent ideas on the team. Please put these dates on your calendar and plan to attend if you are going to play USA League tennis this year.

There doesn't seem to be anything urgent to speak of, so I'll just throw out a quick reminder of what we're up to this fall. Our adult instruction program is seeing continued good support -if you're interested in what groups we offer, look for the signups in the lobby. If your class is full or the times offered don't suit your schedule, put your own group together and I'll try to make time for it. Timberhill's award-winning Tennis Welcome Center program is continuing, and producing new and returning tennis players. It's a great starting point for anyone curious about starting tennis. The junior program is producing large clinic numbers this fall, and the newly formatted Junior Fests have received good reviews from parents and kids alike. For our most competitive players, the junior Academy classes are continuing this fall, keeping our year round tournament players in shape. There are lots of options to choose from: we hope to see you on the lessons courts soon!!
